Tran Thu Do

Tran Thu Do (1194-1264) was the founder of Tran Dynasty despite being a king. Eminent statesman born of a rich family in Hung Ha, Thai Binh; commander of the garrison of the royal capital under the Ly Dynasty. He arranged the abdication of Queen Ly Chieu Hoang and Tran Canh (the first king of Tran Dynasty) in 1226, preparing the advent of the Tran.

The first dignitary of the court, clever administrator, he contributed greatly to the victory of the Tran over the Yuan-Mongols. He gave Tran Thai Tong the famous answer: “As long as my head has not fallen to the ground, your Majesty has nothing to fear.”
