If you are flying into Ho Chi Minh City, you may be able to make part of your arrival preparation before you leave home. Vietnam’s Immigration Department introduced the Pre-arrival Information (PAI) system at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in April 2026. It allows foreign travelers to submit their travel details online and receive a confirmation QR code.
The Immigration Department’s published guidance described the initial rollout as a pilot and encouraged travelers to use the system. As arrival procedures can change, check the official PAI portal and any instructions from your airline before your flight.
When should you complete the declaration?
You can submit your information within three days before arriving in Vietnam. We suggest doing it before your travel day, when you have your passport and flight booking to hand.
How to submit your information
- Visit the official Pre-arrival Information portal.
- Select your preferred language and choose “Create and submit declaration.”
- Enter your personal, visa and flight details as requested. Check your flight number and passport information carefully before submitting.
- Save the confirmation QR code on your phone, or print a copy to carry with your travel documents.
You can show the QR code to immigration staff if requested on arrival. Completing the declaration may make the process smoother, but you should still allow time for normal immigration checks.
Does the QR code replace a visa?
No. The PAI declaration provides travel information to immigration authorities; it is not a visa application or entry approval. Check the visa rules that apply to your passport separately.
Use only the official address, prearrival.immigration.gov.vn. Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security has warned travelers about websites impersonating the PAI system.
