Tin ore has been mined in Việt Nam since 1902 for use as an alloy with copper. The first tin mines were at Vu Nông and the region of Pia Vác (Cao Bằng Province).
Other areas where tin is found are near Tam Đảo, northern Thái Nguyên and Tuyên Quang; Quỳ Hợp (Nghệ An); and near Đà Lạt (Lâm Đồng).
