Hi AngelaHi Angela!
I can’t believe, after all our planning, its over! It was such a brilliant holiday. We feel we had excellent value for the money we paid and we loved every minute.

Our highlights were Moon Garden and Halong Bay. We enjoyed everything else though too. Hoi Ann was lovely and Phan took us to a wedding which was great. We also cycled ourselves to the beach. It is such a beautiful town.

We loved all three guides. They were more than just guides. We asked them so many questions about history, the economy, society as it is etc, and they could answer everything. They were helpful (Khusta forgot to pack
underpants) so Toa took him shopping, and they just were fun and lovely. We don’t have pictures of Toa or Phan. Is it possible you have photos of them to send us?

We found the Chu Chi tunnels very interesting, but very sad. We couldn’t look at the pictures of the results of Agent Orange in the museum. It was too upsetting.

Our impressions of Vietnam is that the people are amazing. So innovative.
Everyone is doing something. In South Africa the government gives people social grants if you are under 18, if you have Aids, if you have diabetes, if you are disabled, and if you are old. They also give free water and electricity if you are poor, and free education if you are poor, and free hospitals. BUT it has meant we have millions of people who don’t have the inner drive to work or create business. Our government schools are bad education so there is a lot of people who are
unskilled to do work and have no hope in life. And our government is
going in to debt with all the social grants they paying out.

I know the good thing about South Africa is we have a free press, freedom of speech, the right to protest etc. and Vietnam does not have that freedom, but you have a government which is improving the economy and fighting corruption.

Thanks for arranging everything, Angela. Khusta is writing an article for our local newspaper about Vietnam. I’ll send you a copy.

Khusta and the kids were scared when we left South Africa that the trip would be a scam because I booked it over the internet. I told them its all legal, but they were only relieved of their fears when they saw Toa standing at the airport with a sign saying “Jack family”!

Keep well, and keep doing such a good job, Kind regards Karen

PS Some pics attached. Funnily, everyone kept speaking to Cayla in Vietnamese!
