Cycling Travel Guide Cambodia

cycling travel guide Cambodia Cambodia is frontier country for cycling tourists, a kingdom rich in history but blighted by brutality in the modern world. The roads are shocking, but the people's smiles more than make up for this - anyone on two wheels will be treated like royalty in the provinces. Angkor is unrivalled: a series of extravagant, inspired monuments dotted through- out the Cambodian jungle. For beach bums the south coast offers fun in the sun after a hard ride to get there.

When to Ride

It is possible to cycle in Cambodia at any time of year, although the ideal period is December to March, when humidity levels are relatively low and there is little likelihood of rain.
The downside is that December to March is also peak tourist season, and there's a lot more traffic on the roads around Angkor and Phnom Penh. However, tourism is still in its infancy and visitor numbers scarcely affect inter-provincial traffic.
The wet season (May-Oct) need not be the worst time to cycle: it doesn't rain all day, every day. However, it is important to plan the route more carefully, as many roads flood at times and unsurpassed roads can look like lentil soup after a heavy shower.
