ORGANISED TOURS

In the early days of Cambodia travel, organized tours were a near necessity. The situation has changed over the last four or five years and it is now much easier to organize your own trip. Budget and mid-range travelers in particular are best off going it alone. If you are on a tight schedule, you may like to book a return flight to Siem Reap before you leave to ensure that you get the time you want at Angkor. Once you get to Angkor, guides and drivers are plentiful.

All the same, Cambodia is not the easiest of countries to travel in and some travelers will no doubt feel more secure visiting with a tour. Some major operators are listed below.

From Australia

Orbiters ( 02-9221 7322, fax 02-9221 7425), GPO Box 3309, Sydney 2000, is a major tour operator for English-speaking visitors. It operates tours ex-Bangkok, and can also combine Cambodia with the other countries in Indochina. Intrepid Travel ( 1300 360 667, fax 03-9419 4426), at 13 Spring St, Fitzroy 3065, has tours to South-East Asia, including a week-long trip to Cambodia.

From the UK  

Regent Holidays ( 0117-921 1711, fax 0117-925 4866), 15 John St, Bristol BS11DE, is a major operator from the UK. Explore Worldwide ( 01252-76 0100, fax 01252-760001), I Frederick St, Alder shot, Hants, GU11 1LQ, also offers Cambodian extensions to its Vietnam trips, but the Cambodian trips are not cheap.

From Thailand
